CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer team takes to the road for the first time this season as they head west for this weekend’s Santa Clara/adidas Classic. At the tournament, which features four top-ten squads, the No. 8 Cavaliers will play No. 10 Stanford on Friday and No. 3 Santa Clara on Sunday.
Virginia is 2-0-0 on the season, after a 4-0 win over Delaware and a 3-0 win over No. 15 West Virginia at Klöckner Stadium last weekend. Shannon Foley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) leads the team in scoring after her two-goal, one-assist performance against the Mountaineers. ACC Player of the Week Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) had a goal and two assists last week, while Chantel Jones (Midlothian, Va.) posted shutouts in her first two career games in net.
Stanford is coming off a trip east last weekend, as they won the BU Terrier Classic in Boston. The Cardinal (2-0-0) defeated Boston University 2-0 and Connecticut 1-0. Santa Clara (1-0-0) downed San Jose State 3-2 at home in its opener last week. The Broncos will meet No. 2 Notre Dame in Friday’s second game of the tournament.
