Fukushima Prefecture, Japan – Playing in her first tournament for Virginia, junior Lene Krog shot even par 72 for the second consecutive day to finish fourth at the Topy Cup held at Tanagura Country Club in Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. She posted a three-day total of 3-over 219. Krog transferred to Virginia after playing her first two years at East Carolina. The tournament featured several career-best efforts by UVa golfers.

Virginia placed fourth overall in the event that also featured Denver and three Japanese University teams. The Cavaliers shot 11-over 299, matching their first round score and improving on their second-round effort by five shots. The team finished the 54-hole tournament at 902.

Sophomore Whitney Neuhauser was 16th overall with a score of 225 including a 77 during Thursday’s final round. Carly Truitt was 21st at 229, Kristen Simpson was 22nd at 230 and Jennie Arseneault placed 26th at 239. Truitt and Simpson both shot 75 during the final round while Arseneault carded a 79.

Neuhauser’s tournament score was the best of her career, topping the 228 she posted at last year’s Liz Murphy Classic at Georgia. Her opening-round 73 was the low 18-hole score in her UVa career. Simpson’s 230 bettered her previous best tourney outing by four shots and her final round 75 equaled her best single-round effort.

Denver won the tournament with a team score of 875. The Pioneers’ Katie Kempter shared medalist honors with Yoshimi Tamura at 2-under 214.

Virginia returns to action Oct. 5-7 when the Cavaliers travel to Chapel Hill for the Lady Tar Heel Invitational. It will be a homecoming for first-year UVa coach Kim Lewellen, who played her collegiate golf at North Carolina.
