Men's Tennis Continues Strong Play at UVa Fall Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE– The Virginia men’s tennis team continued to shine in its first tournament of the season on the second day of the UVa Fall Invitational at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers have three players in finals of singles flights and three doubles teams in flight semifinals.
The finals of the singles flights will be Sunday and in each of the three top-level draws, a Cavalier will be playing for the title. In the red singles, No. 1 ranked Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) will play Damien Lacombe of VCU. In Saturday’s semifinals, Devvarman downed Duke’s Kiril Dimitrov 6-3, 6-3. In the yellow singles draw, No. 13 ranked Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) defeated Damon Gooch of Elon 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals. He will play Martin Sayer of Radford in the final on Sunday. No. 65 Dominic Inglot (London, England) reached the final of the blue singles draw, topping Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech in three sets. He will play Adam Holmstrom of Denver in the final.
In doubles, three Virginia teams won a pair of matches in the two top-level draws to reach the semifinals. No. 1 ranked Devvarman and Huey reached the semis of A-1 doubles, where they are the top seed. No. 24 ranked Inglot and Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.), the No. 2 seed in A-2 doubles, reached the semis of the draw, as did the unseeded duo of Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.). Singh and Singer upset the top seed, No. 11 ranked Keziel Juneau and Alex Cojanu of William & Mary in the quarterfinals.
The tournament concludes Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center. Play begins at 9 a.m.
