Men's Tennis Opens Season at UVa Fall Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE- The Virginia men’s tennis team kicked off the 2007-08 season Friday as play began at the sixth annual UVa Fall Invitational. Three Cavaliers advanced to flight semifinals on the first day of play, which was interrupted by weather.
In each of the three top flights, the Cavaliers had one player reach the semifinals. In the red flight, top seeded Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) began his NCAA title defense with a pair of wins, defeating Mustafa Genscoy of George Washington and Keziel Juneau of William & Mary, both in straight sets. In the yellow flight, top-seeded Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) scored a pair of straight set wins, downing Christian Welte of NC State and Mark Clemente of Columbia. In the blue flight, No. 3 seed Dominic Inglot (London, England) advanced to the semifinals with a straight set win over Eric Roberson of Boise State and a three-set win over Alex Israel of VCU.
Play will continue Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. Singles semifinals will be followed by the start of the doubles draws.
