TULSA, Okla. One Virginia singles player and one doubles team advanced during the second day of the qualifying draw of the ITA All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center of the campus of the University of Tulsa. Both are now one win away from reaching the main draw of the tournament, which annually features almost every player in the preseason ITA rankings.

Houston Barrick (Brentwood, Tenn.) defeated his second ranked opponent in as many days, topping No. 97 Matt Thibaudeau of Alabama 7-6, 6-3 on Tuesday. He will play Florida State’s Clint Bowles, ranked No. 105 nationally, on Wednesday for a place in the main draw.

In other singles action on Tuesday, a pair of Cavaliers were eliminated from the qualiftying draw. Dominic Inglot (London, England) lost to Gary Sacks of USC 7-6, 6-2 and Ted Angelinos (Athens, Greece) fell to Damon Gooch of Elon 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Doubles play in the qualifying draw will began on Tuesday with a pair of Cavalier teams competing. Inglot and Barrick, ranked No. 24 nationally, are the No. 2 seed in the draw and won a pair of matches on Tuesday. The duo topped Will Gray and Albert Jou of Tulsa 8-2 in the first round before downing Bram ten Berge and Matthias Wellermann of Ole Miss 8-5 in the second round. Barrick and Inglot will play Max Jones and Kamil Pajkowski of New Mexico on Wednesday for a place in the 32-team main draw.

Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) and Lee Singer (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) lost in their first round match on Tuesday, falling to Alex Clayton and Richard Wire of Stanford, 9-8.

The main draw of the event begins on Thursday. Cavaliers Somdev Devvarman (Chennai, India) and Treat Huey (Alexandria, Va.) were selected for the main draw of both singles and doubles due to their preseason rankings.
