CHARLOTTESVILLE — The seventh ranked Virginia women’s soccer team closes out the 2007 regular season Friday night as it visits fourth ranked North Carolina. Game time at Fetzer Field is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will be broadcast live online by ACC Select.

The Cavaliers (11-2-4, 5-1-3 ACC) are looking to rebound from its first conference loss of the season, a 1-0 setback Sunday at Boston College. The loss snapped a 13-game unbeaten streak, the second longest in school history. Virginia enters the week in second place in the conference with 18 points, and a win on Friday would clinch the No. 2 seed for the Cavaliers at next week’s ACC Tournament.

The Tar Heels (14-3-0, 8-1-0 ACC) enter the game on a seven-game winning streak and have already secured the top seed for the ACC Tournament. North Carolina has not played since October 18, a 4-1 victory over NC State.

North Carolina leads the all-time series between the schools 31-0-1, including a 14-0-0 mark in Chapel Hill. The draw in the series came in the 2004 ACC Tournament final, when the teams played to a 1-1 before the Cavaliers won a penalty kick shootout 5-4 to win their first ACC title. The Tar Heels have won the last three meetings, including a 2-0 result at Klckner Stadium last year.

Next week the Cavaliers will travel to Florida for the 2007 ACC Tournament, which will be held November 7-11 at the Disney Wide World Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista.
