Virginia’s Kevin Tschirhart won the Cavalier Open, hosted at Panorama Farms, by over 20 seconds today as the Virginia cross country programs closed out their home schedule with the meet. Tschirhart’s 24:41.7 over 8K bettered Donnie Cowart’s second place run of 25:05.6. On the women’s side, former Virginia All-American Dawn Cromer won the meet by over 30 seconds, running an 18:05.6.

Tschirhart was joined in the top-10 by teammates Will Williams (6th, 25:22.0) and Steve Finley (10th, 25:45.3). Huma Husain led the Virginia women, finishing fourth at 18:40.0 and was the third collegiate runner across the line.

The Cavaliers return to action next Saturday, Nov. 10 as both the men and the women compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville. Bids to the NCAA Championships will be announced on Monday, Nov. 12. The men’s team is currently ranked a program-high ninth and is coming off its second ACC title in three years.
