Cavalier Men Finish Fourth at NCAA Southeast Regional

The No. 9 Virginia men’s cross country team finished fourth at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville today, led by ACC Freshman of the Year Emil Heineking, who ran 30:25 over the 10K course and was the first rookie across the line. The Cavalier men totaled 116 points and await an at-large bid to the NCAA Championships that will likely come on Sunday. On the women’s side, Cavalier All-American Emily Harrison finished second and has earned a trip to the NCAA Championships.

Heineking led a pack of seven Cavaliers who crossed in span of 63 seconds. Andy Biladeau, Jan Foerster, and Ryan Foster finished 21st, 22nd, and 25th; all four men earned All-Regional honors, the most for the Cavaliers in school history. The honor is the third for both Foerster and Foster.

Harrison has finished in the top five of every race she has run in 2007; she also earned her fourth All-Regional honor. Joining Harrison on the All-Regional team was Stephanie Garcia, who finished 25th with her 21:22.5 over the 6K. Kara Scanlin and Suzanne Ginnow finished 34th and 36th respectively.

The bids to the NCAA Championships will be announced on Sunday, Nov. 11. The finals race will take place on Monday, Nov. 19 in Terre Haute, Ind and will be held at Indiana State University.
