CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) –Sean Singletary scored 23 points and had eight assists Wednesday night, leading Virginia to a 92-53 victory against Howard.

Twelve others also scored for the Cavaliers (2-0) in their final tuneup before heading west to play No. 17 Arizona on Saturday night. Virginia beat Vermont on Sunday.

The Bison (0-2) got 16 points from Jeron Smith and 13 from Eugene Myatt. Howard was outrebounded 48-23, committed 19 turnovers and shot just 41 percent from the field.

After seven lead changes in the early going, Virginia closed the first half on a 22-2 run, led 41-26 at halftime and coasted against the team from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Mamadi Diane added 14 points, Calvin Baker 11 and Jeff Jones 10.

The Cavaliers shot 49 percent and hit 12 3-pointers, four by Diane. They also established new team records of 37 field goals, 24 assists and 10 steals at John Paul Jones Arena, which opened last season. Virginia has won 18 of 19 games in the building.
