CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. The Virginia volleyball team (17-12, 12-8 ACC) lost in five games to Boston College Saturday in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Fourth year Katie Oakes and first year Kendahl Voelker paced the Cavaliers with 18 kills apiece. Game scores were 26-30, 30-19, 27-30, 30-27 and 12-15.

Virginia hit .155 for the match and finished with 68 kills. Four Cavaliers registered double figure kills, including Oakes, Voelker, Beth Shelton (13) and Shannon Davis (11). Setter Kelly Irvin recorded 52 assists while also contributing two service aces. Shelton and Melissa Caldwell also chipped in two service aces each.

Defensively, Caldwell, who set the career digs record in Friday’s win at Maryland, finished with 24 digs against the Eagles. Irvin also had 24 digs, while Shelton tallied 13, A.J. Cushman contributed 12 and Tara Hester added 10. Davis also led the Cavalier blocking effort with five.

Kelsey Johnson led Boston College (14-16, 8-12 ACC) with a match-high 28 kills while Cathy Quilico tallied 33 digs.

Virginia will close the 2007 campaign next week with two matches at home. First up is defending ACC champion Duke, who will battle the Cavaliers at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Gymnasium.
