Aloha and Happy Thanksgiving Virginia women’s basketball fans! The Rainbow Wahine Classic tips off tomorrow and the Cavaliers will face Texas at 6:20 p.m. Eastern Time.

It was a long trip from the East Coast complete with a 4 a.m. wake-up call, but we arrived in Honolulu on Tuesday afternoon and checked into our hotel, the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Everyone was pretty exhausted from the flight and traveling all day, but the team, coaches and support staff gathered to eat and check out our surroundings before heading in for a good night’s rest.

Wednesday was a full day of study hall, practice, beach time and a very special visit to Pearl Harbor. After a morning practice at the nearby La Pietra School, the team had some free time. Most people headed out to the beach, as it was 80 degrees and sunny. Waikiki Beach is a beautiful sight and the weather has been perfect.

At 3 p.m., the caravan left for Pearl Harbor, where the team was treated to the Admiral’s Tour of the harbor and surrounding areas. After being shown around the Admiral’s boathouse by members of the U.S. Navy, the team watched a short film on the attack on Pearl Harbor then headed off for a guided tour in one of the admiral’s vessels.

The U.S.S. Arizona Memorial was a sight to see and as the team arrived at sunset it was a special moment of remembrance and respect.

Wednesday night, more time was spent checking out the surrounding area of Waikiki Beach, and practice is about to start on Thursday, so check back to virginiasports.com for the latest updates on Virginia women’s basketball in Hawaii.

Go Hoos!
