Postgame Quotes
Virginia 83, Davidson 68
Dec. 20, 2007

Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan
On starting the game strong:

“I thought we were very sharp to start the game and for the most part we sustained a good effort. They got back in the game by making some 3’s, so we need to be better at that for sure.”

On the return of Enong Stovall to the lineup:

“She’d been out for three weeks so UConn was her first game back. She’s learning the offenses again and she’s better now than she was two weeks ago.”

On not letting Davidson back within single digits in the second half:
“We did a good job tonight of shutting the door and finishing the game, which is what you have to do. This team is performing just about where I would expect them to. There are some games I wish we would have won or done better in, but we are slowly coming together to where we want to be. We’ve been off for 14 days, and we played well for that much of a break. We came out tonight and played how I hoped we would.”

On the play of Davidson:

“Davidson is a good team, they’ll do well in their league. They are extremely well-coached.”

Virginia third-year forward Lyndra Littles
On the team’s 15-day break for exams:

“It’s a game you look forward to. It was good to get out there after such a long break.”

On what UVa needs to improve on:
“We need to limit our turnovers and our careless mistakes, but each individual brings something special to the team. We mesh well and have good production for the most part.”

Virginia fourth-year guard Sharne Zoll
On the break between games:

“We had exams, but we were practicing. We had workouts that weren’t as long as usual practices so we could get home and study for exams.”

On finishing the game strong:

“We learned from our losses to George Washington and South Carolina. We let the lead get to 10 points then we realized that we needed to pick it up. We made sure we finished the game and did what we needed to do.”

Davidson Head Coach Annette Watts
On Mercedes Robinson’s 22-point, 13-rebound performance:

“If I could have seen Debbie Ryan’s scouting report I wonder if it would have said Don’t let No. 21 have the ball,’ so it was good that Mercedes didn’t back down from that and wanted the ball. I was pleased with her performance because she is definitely one of our leaders.”

On the play of Julia Paquette:
“Julia came up big for us tonight because we needed those big bodies to bang with Virginia. She did a good job scoring although she got into a bit of foul trouble early.”

On her team’s upcoming schedule:
“We don’t have long to regroup because we have a game against Auburn coming up. I like to play teams like Virginia so we are ready for Southern Conference play when the time comes.”
