Postgame Quotes
Virginia 71, Delaware State 54
Dec. 28, 2007

Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan
On the team’s rhythm:

“We had stretches where we had some rhythm and we had stretches were had none at all. We’ll have to play a whole lot better tomorrow night to beat a very good Marshall team.”

On the athleticism of Delaware State:
“It was a very physical game and they are an extremely athletic team. I’d say that’s the most athletic team we’ve faced all year. They were disciplined enough to slow the game down so you’ve got to give them credit for that.”

On the play of Britnee Millner:
“Britnee plays really really hard. She puts a lot of effort into it and sometimes she ends up on the floor for whatever reason. But she gets right back up and she’s an energizer for us. She puts a lot of pressure on the ball which is what we need.”

Virginia second-year guard Monica Wright

On the tempo of the game:
“We’re an up-tempo team so it was different for us, but we figured it out after awhile.”

On Delaware State:
“We had to fight for every rebound and every loose ball. They are a very scrappy team and they work for everything. It was a really physical game.”

Virginia third-year forward Lyndra Littles
On Delaware State trying to slow the game down:

“You can’t allow certain things to frustrate you. We came out with the win so they weren’t able to frustrate us too much.”

On having a week off in between games:
“I missed four free throws which is very unusual for me, so I think that might have been the rust.”

Delaware State head coach Ed Davis
On his game plan heading into tonight:

“Historically, we try to keep an opponent like Virginia somewhere in the 50s or 60s. We did a good job of containing them but we weren’t able to match their scoring. If you are going to beat an ACC team, you must match their intensity and we did not do that tonight.”

On Raquel Collier’s 20-point performance:
“Raquel has averaged 20 points per game against top opponents. She is that type of next-level player.”
