CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. The Virginia baseball team has been picked to finish third in the ACC Coastal Division in the 2008 ACC Baseball Coaches Preseason Poll, released today by the conference.

The Cavaliers earned 52 points, including one first-place vote, in finishing behind North Carolina (67 points) and Miami (59) in the Coastal Division. Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Duke rounded out the Coastal Division prognostication.

Florida State (66) was predicted to win the Atlantic Division. Clemson (61) was a close second, followed by NC State, Wake Forest, Boston College and Maryland.

North Carolina also was the league’s overall favorite, garnering seven votes from the league’s coaches. Florida State and Miami each earned two votes, while Virginia nabbed one.

The Cavaliers open their 2008 season Feb. 22 vs. Lehigh. UVa starts ACC play March 7 at NC State.
