CHARLOTTESVILLE Two members of the Virginia women’s soccer team were named to the ACC All-Academic Team conference officials announced Thursday. Senior defender Becky Sauerbrunn (St. Louis, Mo.) and senior forward Shannon Foley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) were named to the team.

Sauerbrunn, currently in camp with the United States Women’s National Team, was named to the team for the third consecutive year. This season she was a first-team NSCAA All-American and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year after anchoring a Cavalier defense that led the nation in goals against average (0.40) and posted a school-record 15 shutouts. She was also named the NSCAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Foley was named to the team for the first time. A second-team All-ACC selection, Foley led the Cavaliers with 10 goals and nine assists for 29 points in 2007. She ended her career with a school-record 36 career assists.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
