CHARLOTTESVILLE The Virginia women’s soccer program has announced that six players have signed letters of intent to join the Cavalier program this fall. Lauren Alwine (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Amanda Fancher (The Colony, Texas), Sammy Hale (Rolling Hills Estates, Calif.), Maggie Kistner (St. Louis, Mo.), Molly McKeon (Midlothian, Va.), and Katie Starsia (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) will form the first-year class of the 2008 Virginia women’s soccer team.

The class includes three players with United States youth national team experience, and four who are NSCAA All-Americans.

“In our program, we take great pride in helping develop players who are team oriented, skilled, can play at a very fast pace, respect the game, and who are mentally tough,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “In order to do this though, it takes quality individuals who are hard working, motivated and dedicated both in the classroom and on the field. These are characteristics we value in all our players and we feel the six individuals who make up the Class of 2008 have everyone of these qualities and more. We could not be more excited about them as students, athletes, and most importantly, as people. We are anxiously awaiting the day when they will join our returning squad and we can continue to build our team for what should be an exciting fall in 2008.”

These six players will join 20 returning players, including nine starters, from last year’s squad. The 2007 Cavaliers went 13-4-6 and reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
