Charlottesville, VA The Virginia women’s golf team opens the spring portion of its schedule Sunday at Miami’s Qdoba Invitational at the par-72, 6,210-yard Don Shula’s Golf Resort in Miami Lakes. The 54-hole event runs through Tuesday. The 12-team field tees off Sunday with a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. The second and third rounds will start at 8:30 a.m., also with shotgun starts.

Virginia’s lineup will include Lene Krog, Jennie Arseneault, Whitney Neuhauser, Calle Nielson and Kristen Simpson. Carly Truitt and Joy Kim will compete as non-scoring individuals.

In addition to the Cavaliers and Hurricanes, the field includes Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Mississippi State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, South Florida and Southern Mississippi. The Cavaliers enter the event ranked No. 23 in the latest Golfweek standings. East Carolina, at No. 22, is the only other team in the field ranked.

A pair of Cavaliers enter the tournament ranked among Golfweek’s top-25 individuals. Junior Lene Krog is 23rd in the individual standings while freshman Calle Nielson is 24th. Krog led UVa with a 72.92 stroke average in the fall and posted top-10 finishes in three of four tournaments. Nielson was right behind Krog with a 73.22 stroke average and a pair of top-10 performances.
