CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. Virginia right-handed pitcher Andrew Carraway (Jr., Marietta, Ga.) has earned the ACC’s first Pitcher of the Week honor for 2008 following his strong starting performance Sunday against Lehigh.

Carraway tied a career high with six innings pitched and gave up just two hits in Virginia’s 12-1 win over Lehigh. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter. He did not allow a runner to reach second base until his final inning of work and retired 11-consecutive batters from the second through fifth innings.

It marks the first career pitcher of the week honor for Carraway, who was making his third career start.

The Cavaliers (4-0) continue their 10-game homestand at 4 p.m. Tuesday, playing host to Coppin State. Virginia then welcomes Old Dominion for a 4 p.m. game Wednesday.
