CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Richmond women’s lacrosse team will host the No. 2 Virginia Cavaliers in a 3 p.m. contest on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at First Market Stadium. The Cavaliers are coming off a 14-6 ACC win over instate rival Virginia Tech last Wednesday. Juniors Ashley McCulloch and Jenny Hauser led the attack with four points apiece, while senior Megan O’Malley and sophomore Brittany Kalkstein each tallied three goals.

Thanks to 21-straight victories between 1984-2005, the Cavaliers own an overall 27-3-1 record over the Spiders. Richmond used an 8-7 win over Virginia in 2006 to break the streak, but the Cavaliers rebounded with a dominating 13-5 win over Richmond in Charlottesville last year.

When meeting in Richmond, Virginia is 11-2-1. Senior Blair Weymouth led the Cavaliers’ attack with five points in last season’s win at home, extending Virginia’s home record to 16-1 over the Spiders. The Cavalier defense held Richmond to just 15 shots the entire contest, including only five in the opening half.

Wednesday’s game marks the fourth of five-straight home games for the Spiders. Richmond is coming off of two tough losses in three days at home. The Spiders dropped a 17-6 contest to No. 3 Duke on Friday, before falling to Oregon, 17-5, on Sunday.

Lexie Marrocco and Allison Furstenburg lead Richmond with 12 points apiece. Erica Marrocco, younger sister of Lexie, has played every minute in cage for the Spiders. She is allowing 15.00 goals per game with a .400 save percentage.

Virginia will face its first ranked opponent on Saturday, Mar. 1. The Cavaliers open the home portion of their schedule facing No. 4 Syracuse.
