TULSA, Okla. The top-seeded men’s tennis team opens play at the 2008 NCAA Championships in Tulsa Friday as it meets No. 16 Michigan. Match time at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center is noon CT (1 p.m. ET).

The Cavaliers (30-0) advanced to the round of 16 for the fifth consecutive season by winning the Charlottesville Regional. Virginia topped Fairleigh Dickinson and Penn State by 4-0 scores in the first two rounds of the tournament. The win over the Nittany Lions was Virginia’s 30th of the season, tying the school record set last year when the Cavaliers went 30-4 and reached the NCAA Semifinals.

The Wolverines (20-6) advanced to the round of 16 for the first time since 1988 by winning the Ann Arbor Regional. Michigan topped Western Michigan 4-1 in the first round and Texas Tech 4-2 in the second round.

The two teams met earlier this season with Virginia winning 5-2 on Feb. 3 in an indoor match in Ann Arbor.
