CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia women’s soccer team officially begins its 2008 season Friday night as it hosts Loyola (Md.) at Klckner Stadium at 7 p.m. The game is the season opener for both teams and is a rematch of a 2007 NCAA Tournament first round game at Klckner Stadium, won by the Cavaliers 4-1.

Friday’s game is the third all-time meeting between the schools with the Cavaliers having won the previous two matchups. Virginia defeated Loyola 2-1 at Klckner Stadium in 1997 and 4-1 last season in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Virginia is coming off a 1-0-1 record in a pair of exhibitions. The Cavaliers topped No. 4 Notre Dame 2-1 in Traverse City, Mich. on August 16. Caitlin Miskel (Boca Raton, Fla.) and Maggie Kistner (St. Louis, Mo.) scored against the Fighting Irish. On Monday, the Cavaliers played to a 2-2 tie with Georgetown at Klckner Stadium, with Kistner and Kelly Quinn (Dublin, Ohio) scoring for the Cavaliers. Loyola won both of its exhibitions, topping George Washington 2-0 and George Mason 1-0.
