CHARLOTTESVILLE–Among the changes for football game days at Virginia in 2008 are those involving cameras, the Charlottesville Transit System (CTS) bus shuttle and banners, signs and flags. All information on policies and procedures on football game days at Scott Stadium can be accessed at GameDay Central on VirginiaSports.com. If you are going to be in attendance at Scott Stadium this fall, please be aware of the following information.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early for all games and especially for Saturday’s (Aug. 30) sold out football game with Southern California. Gates at Scott Stadium will open at 1:30 p.m. for the Southern California game that is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. A number of pregame activities are scheduled and fans should plan to be at the stadium as early as possible to avoid potential delays in getting to their seats. It is recommended fans be in the stadium 30 minutes before kickoff.

Still cameras with lenses less than six inches are allowed in Scott Stadium, but flash photography and stands/tripods are prohibited. Video cameras are not allowed in the stadium.

All banners, signs and flags are prohibited in Scott Stadium. The policy is intended to support and promote sportsmanship and a positive game day environment for all fans in attendance at athletics events.

The Charlottesville Transit System (CTS) will offer again this fall a bus shuttle on the Saturdays of University of Virginia home football games and CTS will utilize school buses for the shuttle this year.

The shuttle will run from the Market Street parking garage and Water Street parking garage bus stops to Scott Stadium beginning two hours before the game and from the stadium back to those two downtown area stops after the game. The shuttle buses will be appropriately marked.

The shuttle runs after the game until there is no longer a line, usually 60-90 minutes. A round trip ticket costs $5. Ticket holders need to show their ticket when entering a bus at the stadium for the return trip downtown. The shuttle drops off riders before the game and picks up riders after the game on McCormick Road near the stadium.

Anyone not purchasing a round trip ticket before the game can purchase a ticket to take the shuttle from the stadium to the Market Street and Water Street parking garage bus stops after the game for $5 cash (exact amount required). Individuals can purchase the ticket at the bus loading lines on McCormick Road after the game.

If you have questions concerning the CTS bus shuttle, please call the Charlottesville Transit System at 434/296-RIDE (7433).

Parking is also available at six University lots within walking distance of Scott Stadium. Free parking on a first-come, first-served basis can be found at John Paul Jones Arena, University Hall and Fontaine Research Park. Ten-dollar parking is available at the Emmet/Ivy Garage, the Health Systems Garage and the Central Grounds Garage. The Central Grounds Garage is available five hours before kickoff and the Emmet/Ivy and Health Systems garages three hours before kickoff.

For individuals with disabilities, there is a free UVa parking lot located near The Park (corner of Arlington Blvd. and Massie Road) in the North Grounds area. A DMV handicap placard is required to utilize the parking area. A free bus shuttle will run between that location and Scott Stadium beginning two hours prior to kick off.
