CHARLOTTESVILLE — The Virginia women’s tennis team continued its strong play at the UVa Fall Invitational as play on day two took place at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Cavaliers went 3-0 in doubles and 4-2 in singles on the day, highlighted by Emily Fraser’s (Rye, N.Y.) win over the No. 31 ranked player in the nation.

“We did a lot of good things, but I was most pleased that we had a chance to win on every court,” said head coach Mark Guilbeau. “A performance like this, against this level of competition, I couldn’t ask for any more at this point of the season. We had some impressive results, especially in doubles where we have had a lot of improvement over the first couple of weeks of the season. It was great to play again in front of such a great crowd and we hope to see everyone out here again tomorrow.”

Play on the day opened with doubles, and the Cavaliers swept all three matches against opponents from South Carolina. Amanda Rales (Bethesda, Md.) and Jennifer Stevens (Miami, Fla.) topped Gira Schofield and Natasa Vuckovic 8-2. Fraser and Neela Vaez (Perrysburg, Ohio) defeated Ana Zubori and Miljana Jocic 9-7. First-years Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Claire Bartlett (Chattanooga, Tenn.) scored an 8-3 win over Ashley Miller and Suzanna Mansour.

In singles, Fraser recorded the first ranked win of her career with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 31 ranked Schofield. Bartlett recorded her second win of the tournament, defeating Jocic 6-3, 6-2. Stevens topped Jelena Rajic 6-4, 6-3 and Vaez downed Mansour 6-2, 6-1.

The tournament will conclude Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center with play beginning at 9 a.m. Admission is free.
