CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia senior defender Nikki Krzysik (Clifton, N.J.) was named a first team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. It is the second consecutive season Krzysik has been a first team selection, making her just the third player in school history to twice be a first team All-American.

“To be named a first team All-American for a second year in a row is a fitting tribute to Nikki at the end of her college soccer career at Virginia,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “She has led our team this season both on and off the field and will ultimately go down as one of the best in the history or our program.”

This season Krzysik played every minute to anchor a Cavalier defense that posted nine shutouts and allowed just 5.1 shots per game. Offensively, she added three goals and three assists. Krzysik was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Year and earned first team All-ACC for the second consecutive season. She is a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy.

With the honor, Krzysik joins Andrea Rubio (1990 and 1991) and Becky Sauerbrunn (2003 and 2007) as the only Cavaliers to twice be named a NSCAA first team All-American.

Krzysik was one of four Cavaliers to be named to the NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region squads. Sophomore midfielder Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) joined Krzysik on the first team, while freshman forward Lauren Alwine (Elizabethtown, Pa.) was named to the second team and senior defender Sarah Senty (Arlington, Va.) was named to the third team.
