Caroline Cochran is a first-year on the women’s lacrosse team this spring. The Annapolis, Md., native was a two-time All-American and holds St. Mary’s high school’s career goals record, in addition to being named a Tewaaraton Award winner and a Baltimore Sun Athlete of the Year nominee. Cochran is a member of the National Honor Society and received the President’s Award for Academic Excellence.

Cochran and the Cavaliers will head to Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., this weekend to participate in the Champion Challenge A US Lacrosse event. Virginia will face the US Developmental and US Elite teams at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, respectively, before closing the weekend with a contest against the Japan National team on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Question: How was your first fall ball experience? What was it like training with the coaching staff and the rest of the team?
Cochran: My first fall ball was interesting. I came in with an injury that required I get surgery, so I was out most of the fall ball games. However, I had a great time with the team and the coaching staff. Once I was able to play, the transition was pretty easy. My teammates are awesome and I really loved the whole experience.

Question: How was your first semester on Grounds? What did you enjoy the most?
Cochran: Our campus is absolutely gorgeous. I love dorm life and I have made so many friends living so close to everyone. It is really nice being so close to all my classes, as we are in a great location.

Question: What are you looking forward to this spring?
Cochran: I am so excited for the season to start. I can’t wait for ACCs and NCAAs to see all of our hard work and dedication to be rewarded.

Question: What is your favorite thing about UVa and being a student-athlete?
Cochran: My favorite thing about being a student-athlete is eating at JPJ. The food is so good and it is fun seeing all the other sports teams in there. We really get to know one another and I have already met so many great people.

Question: What do you miss most about high school and home?
Cochran: I miss my friends from high school the most. I also miss my car, the buses can be such a pain to take everyday.

Question: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
Cochran: I have been given an amazing opportunity to play at UVa and my goal for the season is to learn as much as I can from my teammates and coaches to help make me a better player.

Question: Why did you choose to play at Virginia?
Cochran: I chose to play at Virginia because I fell in love with the school the first time I came here. It is an awesome program and a top university.

Question: What do you hope to accomplish before you graduate?
Cochran: I hope to make as many friends as possible because college is the perfect time to meet new people.
