HENDERSON, Nev. The Virginia softball team (6-3) dropped a 1-0 decision to Cal-Fullerton (3-1) Saturday in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. CSF’s Courtney Martinez hit a solo home run to lead off the second inning which proved to be the game’s lone run.

Senior Karla Wilburn (5-1) took her first loss in the circle this season. She allowed four hits in six innings of work and recorded four strikeouts.

Cal-Fullerton’s Krystal Heinle picked up the win, also allowing four hits while striking out six.

Clara Kendall ripped a double for Virginia, while Alison Pittman, Sarah Tacke and Nicole Koren each had singles.

The Cavaliers left the bases loaded in the fourth and made some noise in the sixth. After pinch hitter Cynthia Javaras was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and get the momentum going, Abby Snyder popped up a bunt in foul territory to the Titan catcher and Javaras, running on the play, was doubled up at first.

Virginia concludes tournament action at 9 a.m. (PT) Sunday against Louisville.
