<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>COLUMBIA, S.C. The Virginia softball team (8-5) scored the only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning and hung on for a 1-0 victory over North Florida (4-13) Saturday in the Gamecock Invitational.

After four scoreless innings, freshman Clara Kendall led off the bottom of the fifth with a single. With one out, Koren doubled to left center, scoring Kendall from first.

Virginia finished the game with three hits; Alison Pittman led off the game for Virginia with a single as well.

Karla Wilburn threw a complete game for the Orange and Blue and improved her record to 7-1 on the season. The fifth-year senior limited North Florida to just two hits and struck out six.

Virginia concluded play at the Gamecock Invitational with a 9 a.m. contest Sunday against Sacred Heart.
