CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia softball team fell to 15th-ranked and top-seeded Georgia Tech 7-0 Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2009 ACC Championship. The Cavaliers concluded the season with a record of 25-22, its first winning season since 2006.

The Yellow Jackets outhit Virginia 11-4 in the contest and has a four-run fifth inning. Four different Cavaliers recorded singles in the outing: Carly Winger, Clara Kendall, Giannina Cipolloni and Casey Steffan. It was the final career game in Orange and Blue for seniors Winger and Steffan.

Fifth-year senior Karla Wilburn also played her final college game, earning the start in the circle. Wilburn threw five innings before Stephanie Coates came on the toss the final two innings. Wilburn’s 17 victories this season were the most of her career.

Kristen Adkins earned the win for Georgia Tech after throwing six innings with three strikeouts. Jessica Coan relieved Adkins in the seventh as the two combined for the shutout.
