CHARLOTTESVILLE – Desiree Burns and Jennifer Cromwell were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association first team All-Americans, while Amanda Chase and Augusta Stratos earned second team honors, the organization announced Friday.

Burns, a junior from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., rowed with the Varsity Eight that finished as the runner-up at the NCAA Championships and was the regional champion. She was also a first team all-south region honoree. It is her first All-America honor.

Chase, a co-captain, hails from Woodbridge, Va. She was named to the All-ACC team following Virginia’s second-place finish at the conference championships and rowed with the Varsity Eight that finished second at NCAAs and won the South/Central Region. A first team all-south selection, it is Chase’s first All-America honor.

Cromwell, a junior out of Bellevue, Wash., stroked the Varsity Eight that won the South/Central Region and was the runner-up at NCAAs. This is her second All-America honor, as she was named to the first team last season in addition to being a repeat selection to the all-region team. In 2007, she was the ACC Rookie of the Year.

Stratos, a local product out of Charlottesville, Va., and a senior co-captain, rowed with the regional champion and NCAA second-place finisher Varsity Eight. She was named a second team all-south region selection and an All-ACC selection this season. It is her first All-America honor.

Virginia finished the season ranked No. 2 in the CRCA’s national poll after finishing fourth as a team at the 2009 NCAA Championships. The Varsity Eight finished second, while the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four each finished sixth. UVa was one of four schools (NCAA Champion Stanford, California and Yale were the others) to qualify for each of the grand finals.
