Farrelly Named to Preseason Hermann Watch List

CHARLOTTESVILLE – Cavalier women’s soccer junior midfielder Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) was named to the 2009 Preseason Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy Watch List, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced Tuesday. Farrelly is one of 45 players on the watch list for the award, annually given to the nation’s top player.

Last season Farrelly started all 23 games for the Cavaliers and had five goals and three assists. She earned first-team All-ACC honors for the second consecutive season and was a third-team Soccer Buzz All-American.

The Cavaliers open their preseason schedule on Friday as they meet Notre Dame in Traverse City, Mich. Virginia will host Georgetown in an exhibition contest Sunday night at 7 p.m. at Klöckner Stadium. The 2009 regular season kicks off for the team on Friday, Aug. 21 when it visits Penn State.
