CHARLOTTESVILLE — The No. 14 Virginia women’s soccer team opens its 2009 home schedule Friday night when it hosts Liberty. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers (0-1) are coming off a 1-0 loss at No. 6 Penn State in their season opener last week. Virginia outshot Penn State 17-9 in the contest, but Danielle Toney’s goal in the seventh minute stood for the Nittany Lions. The loss snapped Virginia’s nine-game winning streak in season openers and was the program’s first-ever loss in the month of August (17-1-0).

Liberty (0-0) is making its season debut against the Cavaliers. The Flames return 10 letterwinners from last year’s squad that went 3-12-2.

Friday’s game is the ninth all-time meeting between the schools. The Cavaliers have won all eight previous meetings (all at Klöckner Stadium) by a combined 36-0 score. Last year the Cavaliers downed Liberty 5-0, led by Meghan Lenczyk’s (McLean, Va.) hat trick.
