CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia sophomore Tony Tchani (Norfolk, Va.) has been named to Soccer America’s Men’s Team of the Week, the publication announced on Tuesday (Sept. 8). Tchani led Virginia to a 2-0 weekend at the Portland Nike Invitational, and was named the offensive most valuable player of the tournament.

Tchani had the fourth multi-goal game of his career on Friday (Sept. 4) against host Portland, netting two quick goals in the seventh minute and in the 15th minute of the first half. The goals added to Tchani’s career total, which now stands at 11.

Tchani is a preseason candidate for the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy, and was a third team preseason All-America selection by College Soccer News.

The Cavaliers (2-0) entered this week’s Soccer America Top 25 at No. 21, and will face No. 20 Duke Friday (Sept. 11) at Klöckner Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for approximately 8 p.m., following the Virginia women’s soccer team’s match vs. West Virginia at 6 p.m.
