CHARLOTTESVILLE – Cavalier women’s soccer junior midfielder Sinead Farrelly (Havertown, Pa.) was named the ACC Player of the Week, conference officials announced Tuesday. Farrelly led Virginia to a pair of key wins last week over Florida State and Miami that clinched the Cavaliers’ berth in the ACC Tournament.

In the 1-0 upset of No. 4 Florida State on Friday, Farrelly scored the game’s lone goal in the 44th minute as she intercepted a clearance attempt at the top of the box and placed a shot just under the crossbar. She also scored the game-winning goal in Virginia’s 2-0 win over Miami on Sunday as she tapped in a rebound of a shot off the post in the 54th minute.

On the season, Farrelly has set career-highs with seven goals and six assists. She is tied for the team lead in scoring with 20 points.

The ACC Player of the Week honor is the first of Farrelly’s career and the second for a Cavalier this season. Caroline Miller (Rockville, Md.) was honored on September 1.

The Cavaliers are the No. 7 seed in this week’s ACC Tournament, held at the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C. Virginia meets Boston College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
