CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team will close out its 2009 season at Virginia Tech on Wednesday. The Cavaliers are set to face the Hokies at 6 p.m., in Cassell Coliseum. Live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

Earlier this season, Virginia beat its instate-rival, 3-1, in Memorial Gymnasium. Sophomore Simone Asque led the Cavaliers in the match, knocking down 16 kills, while senior Lauren Dickson had 15. Defensively, junior AJ Cushman led all players with 19 digs.

Asque leads the Cavaliers this year with 407 kills and is ranked third in the ACC. Freshman Rachel Gray has dished out 1,057 assists, while junior AJ Cushman has landed a team-high 35 aces and has collected 503 digs. Freshman Jessica O’Shoney has blocked 83 attacks.

Felicia Willoughby leads the Hokies with 323 kills this season and 136 blocks – ranking third in the league. Erin Leaser sits second in the ACC, distributing 1,287 assists, while Justine Records is third, landing 48 service aces.

Virginia and Virginia Tech are both coming off two-straight losses last weekend at Clemson and Georgia Tech. The Tigers defeated both squads in four sets, while the Yellow Jackets swept both contests.

In a series that dates back to 1979, Virginia holds the all-time lead over Virginia Tech, 30-23. The Hokies won the first seven meetings and 11 of the first 12 contests, but the Cavaliers have won 15 of the last 19 meetings, since 1995. In the 10 matches since Virginia Tech joined the ACC, the Cavaliers have come out on top seven times.

In Cassell Coliseum, the Cavaliers hold an overall record of 10-14 and are looking to break a three-match losing skid.
