CHARLOTTESVILLE – Sophomore midfielder Tony Tchani (Norfolk, Va.) and junior goalkeeper Diego Restrepo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) were named to College Soccer News’ All-America first team, the organization recently announced.

Tchani was also named a first team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He finished the season with eight goals and four assists and his list of season honors also included first team All-South Atlantic Region by the NSCAA, second team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament team. Following the Cavaliers’ win in the NCAA Championship final, Tchani was named to the College Cup All-Tournament team.

Restrepo finished 2009 leading the nation in save percentage (89 percent) and ranking second in the nation in goals-against average (.30). He set new school records for shutouts in a season (15), consecutive shutouts (11) and scoreless minutes (1176:51). A third team All-South Atlantic region selection by the NSCAA, Restrepo was the NCAA Championship’s Defensive MVP and the MVP of the ACC Tournament.

Virginia won its sixth NCAA Men’s Soccer Championship with a 3-2 penalty kick shootout victory over Akron on Dec. 13. The victory gave Virginia its 19th team National Championship in school history, the first since men’s lacrosse in 2006.
