CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Sophomore Briggy Imbriglia became the first diver to earn a spot in the finals over the weekend as diving events at the 2010 ACC Championships concluded.

With a score of 310.10, Imbriglia finished eighth on the platform in the prelims to earn a berth in the finals. He went on to tally a mark of 291.95 in the finals to finish eighth. He is the first diver to reach the finals of the platform event, which was added to the championships in 2008.

“He had some huge dives,” Virginia diving coach Rich MacDonald said of Imbriglia. “I can’t be more proud of him. Hopefully it will set him up to do well at the Zone Meet next month.”

Also in the platform, teammate Alex D’Ambrosio as 18th with a score of 221.5.

In the 1-meter event, Imbriglia placed 10th with a score of 337.10. D’Ambrosio finished 19th overall with a mark of 281.90. In the 3-meter event, Imbriglia earned a 15th-place finish (308.65) and D’Ambrosio was 20th (271.85).

Imbriglia earned 20 points for the Cavalier men as they will try to defend their ACC title beginning on Wednesday at Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, N.C.
