CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia left-hander Danny Hultzen (So., Bethesda, Md.) has been tabbed the ACC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Hultzen was overpowering in a 13-0 win over Rhode Island last Friday (Feb. 26).

In earning his second win of the season, Hultzen pitched seven shutout innings against the Rams, allowing just two baserunners while striking out 12 and not walking a batter. He gave up only two hits, of which just one left the infield.

Hultzen recorded his third career double-digit strikeout performance and fell one strikeout shy of his career high of 13, set last season against Florida State. The 2009 ACC Freshman of the Year struck out 12 of the 22 batters he faced.

This marks Hultzen’s second career conference pitcher of the week award. He also earned the honor on March 16, 2009, following his performance against Florida State.

Hultzen is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA through two games this season.

Hultzen and the Cavaliers, again ranked No. 1 nationally this week, next will take on James Madison at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Davenport Field. UVa will play host to Wright State and Dartmouth this weekend.
