CHARLOTTESVILLE – Two members of the Virginia men’s tennis team will represent their nations as the first round of the 2010 Davis Cup takes place this weekend. Junior Sanam Singh (Chandigarh, India) has been named to India’s Davis Cup Team as they play at Russia in the World Group and first-year Julen Uriguen (Guatemala City, Guatemala) will lead Guatemala at Mexico in the Americas Group.

Singh is joined on the Indian team by former Cavalier All-American Somdev Devvarman, top-10 doubles players Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, and Rohan Bopanna. The Russian team features world No. 6 Nikolay Davydenko and world No. 15 Mikhail Youzhny.

India is playing in the World Group of Davis Cup for the first time since 1998.

Uriguen will make his third Davis Cup appearance for Guatemala this weekend against Mexico. He represented his country twice last year, against the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. He clinched Guatemala’s win over the Bahamas last year with a five-set win over Marvin Rolle.

Singh left for Moscow on Saturday as India began preparations for this weekend’s tie vs. Russia. Uriguen went 2-0 in singles for the Cavaliers in their tripleheader on Saturday before leaving for Mexico City on Sunday.

This weekend, Virginia hosts Georgetown and Old Dominion on Friday March 5 and Texas on Sunday, March 7.
