CHARLOTTESVILLE – The top-ranked Virginia men’s tennis team hosts a top-five showdown on Sunday afternoon, as it meets No. 4 Texas at noon at the Snyder Tennis Center. The Longhorns are the highest ranked opponent to visit Charlottesville for a non-tournament match during the Brian Boland era.

Virginia (16-1, 2-0 ACC) and Texas (13-1) will play the match using an alternative scoring system. The teams agreed to play a 13-point match with nine singles and four doubles matches, all worth one team point.

“I believe this is an exciting match for both programs,” said Boland. “I know our team is looking forward to it. We have a lot of respect for Texas and it should be a great match. This is a great opportunity for our fans to see some of the best college tennis in the country. I appreciate Texas coach Michael Center for agreeing to play the match with this format. I think it allows both teams to really test themselves and grow and develop from it.”

Admission to all Virginia tennis home matches is free.
