FULLERTON, Calif. – The Virginia softball team (13-12) dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Judi Garman Invitational, falling to No. 8 Oklahoma 2-0 and San Jose State 8-4.

Melanie Mitchell threw a complete game against the Sooners (25-6), fanning seven batters. Both runs were unearned; the freshman hurler allowed just four hits.

Virginia recorded just one hit, a single by Alison Pittman, off of a combined effort from OU’s Kirsten Allen and Kellani Richetts.

Oklahoma did not score its runs until the top of the seventh inning. Jessica Shults reached on a Virginia error and Lindsey Vanderver walked to put two on. A groundout to the right side allowed both runners to advance. With two outs, Dani Dobbs doubled to right center.

San Jose State outhit the Cavaliers 13-9 in the second game of the afternoon en route to a victory.

Virginia concludes play at the Judi Garman Invitational at 9 a.m. PDT (12 p.m. EDT) Sunday against No. 2 Arizona.
