CHARLOTTESVILLE — Officially, it’s a closed practice, but that applies only to the public and the media. About 60 high school players and coaches are on hand today as the UVa football team drills under sunny skies on an unseasonably warm spring afternoon.

“If you’re a high school coach or a prospect and you’re in the area, you’re welcome to attend,” Mike London said. “Because you just never know. You have your open and closed periods, but sometimes these guys’ spring breaks fall outside of your schedule.”

More visitors are expected for UVa’s practice Saturday at Scott Stadium.

“You think sometimes that on Easter weekend, you might not have as many people,” London said, “but the doors are open, and so a lot of guys are coming in and talking to the coaches. And the players get a chance to walk around and listen to the coaching and teaching and watch the drill work.”

High school coaches in attendance today include Frank Rocco of Liberty Christian Academy, Craig Jefferies of Dunbar in D.C., and Gary Schnell of St. Albans in D.C. Also at practice is Bridgewater College coach Mike Clark.

UVa’s Spring Football Festival is April 10 at Scott Stadium. The intrasquad scrimmage will start at 2 p.m.
