Cavaliers Set to Host Annual Lou Onesty Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team will host its annual Lou Onesty Invitational this weekend at Lannigan Field. Events are scheduled to begin on Friday at 1 p.m., and conclude with the men’s 4x400m relay on Saturday around 4 p.m. Admission to events at the Lou Onesty Invitational is free.

Friday will feature ACC Champion and All-American Meghan Briggs in the javelin at 5 p.m., while NCAA Champion Robby Andrews and All-American and ACC Champion Ryan Collins will open their outdoor season trying to break four minutes in the mile at 6:30 p.m. Fans that are on their way to the 7 p.m. Virginia baseball game are encouraged to stop by the track – directly next to the entrance to Davenport Field – to watch Andrews and Collins, in addition to Albemarle High School graduate Zach Vrhovac, All-American Sintayehu Taye and other Cavaliers as they attempt to break the coveted mark.

On Saturday, field events will begin at 10 a.m., and conclude with the women’s shot put at 2:30 p.m., which will feature ACC Indoor Champion Maureen Laffan.

Track events will begin with ACC Champion Adams Abdulrazaaq in the 110m hurdles at noon and conclude with the men’s 4x400m relay at 3:45 p.m.

Following Saturday’s competition, Virginia’s men’s team will hold its official adoption ceremony with Jonah Terry – a young child from the Friends of Jaclyn organization that will be welcomed into the Cavaliers’ track and field program.
