Greensboro, NC – The 13th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied with third-ranked Duke for second place after the opening round of the ACC Championships taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. Virginia shot 4-over 288 on the par-71 course and trails No. 9 Wake Forest by two shots. Maryland is in fourth place at 299.

Virginia had three golfers finish in the top-10 after the opening 18 holes. Junior Calle Nielson shot 1-over 70 and is tied for second place, one stroke behind tournament leader Alison Whitaker of Duke. Nielson had four birdies and three bogeys during her round.

UVa freshmen Nicole Agnello and Brittany Altomare are in sixth and eight place, respectively. Agnello shot even par 71 and Altomare finished at 1-over 72. Redshirt freshman Lauren Greenlief is in 19th place with a 7-over 78. Whitney Neuhauser is 45th after carding a 94.

The tournament continues at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Virginia, teamed with Duke and Wake Forest, will start its second round at 10:10 a.m.
