CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia women’s soccer program has announced that seven players will join the Cavalier program this fall. Danielle DeLisle (Baltimore, Md.), Gloria Douglas (Fayetteville, N.C.), Shasta Fisher (Saugus, Calif.), Amber Fry (Northfield, Ill.), Molly Menchel (Alexandria, Va.), Mary Morgan (Norfolk, Va.) and Churchill O’Connell (McLean, Va.) will be freshmen on the 2010 Virginia women’s soccer team.

“There is no question this is an extremely talented class,” said head coach Steve Swanson. “[Assistant coaches] Ron [Raab] and Kerry [Dziczkaniec] have done an extraordinary job in helping put this class together for the fall. We not only have players that we feel will be able to contribute immediately to our team, but we also feel this class has so much potential to grow in the next four years. All of these players are hard workers, with excellent athleticism and speed, a team first approach, and as a whole possess a great understanding of the game beyond their years. They have a very high soccer IQ. We already are looking forward to blending their talents in with an experienced group of returning players this coming fall.”

These seven players will join 19 returning players, including 10 starters, from last year’s squad. The 2009 Cavaliers went 10-6-6, finishing the season ranked No. 19 nationally, and reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year. It was Virginia’s 16th consecutive NCAA appearance (third longest streak nationally) and its 22nd overall NCAA appearance.
