Cavaliers Compete at Liberty and Stanford This Week

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team will send Cavaliers to Liberty’s Twilight Qualifier on Thursday and Stanford’s Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational on Saturday as they look to better their marks for this season to qualify for the NCAA East Region Championships.
Led by senior All-American and three-time ACC Champion Meghan Briggs – who leads the East Region and ranks fifth nationally with her mark of 171′ 0″ in the javelin – 10 Cavaliers are currently ranked in the top-25 of the East Region.
Junior Adams Abdulrazaaq is ranked in dual events, sitting ninth in the region in the 110m hurdles and 21st in the 400m hurdles. Abdulrazaaq’s school-record time of 13.85 in the 110m hurdles from ACCs ranks 21st nationally and he also holds a time of 51.99 in the 400m hurdles from ACCs.
Senior All-American transfer Steve Delice joins Abdulrazaaq in the 400m hurdles rankings, sitting seventh in the region and 18th nationally. His time of 50.94 from ACCs ranks third in Virginia’s all-time top-10 performances and is the fastest time by a Cavalier since Rob Archer ran 50.80 in 1984.
Junior Marcus Robinson ranks sixth in the region in the triple jump and holds a No. 13 national ranking, leaping 51′ 9.25″ to finish third at ACCs. His jump also ranks third in Virginia’s all-time program records and is the best since Chike Chukwolozie jumped 52′ 3.75″ in 1990.
On the women’s side, freshman Dallas Rose broke Virginia’s freshman record in the triple jump with a distance of 41′ 7.75″. Her mark earned her a win in her section of the Texas Relays and is the 14th-best jump in the region.
In other field events, junior Andy Fahringer is ranked 12th in the region in the javelin, throwing 222′ 9″ to finish runner-up at ACCs, while freshman Emily Vannoy is ranked 24th regionally in the shot put. Her mark of 50′ 2.5″ from ACCs broke the program’s freshman record in the event.
The Cavaliers also have three other top-25 regionally ranked athletes on the track. In the steeplechase, junior Steve Finley ranks 13th with his runner-up finish at ACCs in 8:56.11. Freshman All-American Robby Andrews won the mile at the annual Lou Onesty invitational in a meet-record time of 4:01.53. His mile time converts to the region’s 15th-fastest 1500m time, 3:43.66, while redshirt sophomore All-American Ryan Collins ranks 19th in the 10k. Collins finished the 10,000m race at ACCs in second place with a time of 29:35.10.
Following this weekend, the Cavaliers will take a weekend off for exams before heading to North Carolina and to the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
