Wilmington, NC – The 13th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team moved up three spots to seventh place after two rounds of play at the NCAA Championships taking place at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, N.C. The 72-hole tournament runs through Friday.

Virginia shot 3-over 281 Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 9-over 585. Fourth-ranked USC leads the field at 6-under 570, seven strokes ahead of second-place Alabama. Purdue, ranked eighth, is third at 578, top-ranked UCLA is fourth at 580, fifth-ranked Arizona State is in fifth place at 581 and sixth-ranked Arizona is in sixth-place at 582.
Virginia was led during the second round by freshman Nicole Agnello, who equaled her career-best 18-hole score by shooting 2-under 70. She climbed up to 11th place on the leaderboard with a two-day total of even par 144.

Brittany Altomare shot 3-over 75 and dropped down to 18th place at 1-over 145. Calle Nielson is 25th at 146 after shooting 1-over 73 for the second consecutive round. Lauren Greenlief also fired a 73 to move to 82nd at 8-over 152. Joy Kim is also tied for 82nd after carding a 3-over 75 Wednesday.

“We had a very good day and I was very excited to see Nicole play so well in a championship setting,” said UVa coach Kim Lewellen. “We were kind of on a roll when play was suspended due to the weather. When we came back out we got a couple of bogies and sort of lost our mojo. We should have good weather Thursday, so we’ll see if we can get hot again and keep it going.”

The second round of the tournament was suspended at 7:27 p.m. due to darkness with six team still on the course. Play was stopped twice during the afternoon due to lighting in the area. The second round resumed at 7:30 a.m. Thursday with a shotgun start and the third round started one hour after the conclusion of the second round.

Virginia will play in the afternoon and will go off in the last wave of the day from the 10th tee. Due to the delay in starting the round, the Cavaliers will tee off after 2:40 p.m.

Live video streaming of the third round will start at 1:30 p.m.
