IRVINE, Calif. – Day three of the ConocoPhillips National Championships continued Thursday and three Virginia swimmers returned for the evening session to compete in consolation or bonus finals. The meet, which is being held in Irvine, Calif., continues through Saturday.

In the men’s 200-meter fly, rising junior Peter Geissinger (Darien, Conn.) placed 12th overall, improving his prelim time of 53.75 to finish in 53.71 in the consolation finals.

Senior tri-captain Claire Crippen (Conshohocken, Pa.), a two-time conference champion in the 400 IM, finished 20th in the event. She also swam faster in the evening session, touching in 4:47.47.

Scot Robison (Charlotte, N.C.) also returned to swim in the consolation final of the 50-meter free. He was 15th in the preliminaries with a time of 22.92.

Day four continues Friday with the men’s 100-meter free, women’s 200-meter fly, men’s 200-meter IM, women’s 200-meter back and women’s 800-meter free.
