CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia women’s cross country recruiting class has been tabbed the second best in the nation, as announced Thursday by FloTrack.

The Cavaliers’ incoming group of Vanessa Fabrizio (Denver, Colo/Mullen), Ariel Karabinus (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park), Chelsea Ley (Woolwich Township, N.J./Kingsway Regional), Kathleen Stevens (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) and Katherine Walker (Stafford, Va./Brooke Point) has garnered national attention for their high school accomplishments.

“This recruiting class is all about quality,” FloTrack stated. “Only five girls, but their accomplishments speak for themselves. This will be a very dangerous team in years to come.”

The incoming group joins a Cavalier team that finished 15th at NCAAs last year and returns five of its top seven runners this season. Senior Catherine White looks to be one of the top-returning runners in the country, as she won the Southeast Region Championship, finished runner-up at ACCs and picked up a fourth-place finish at NCAAs in 2009.

All-Region and All-ACC performer junior Morgane Gay and All-Region honoree senior Stephanie Garcia, in addition to juniors Anna Corrigan and Laurel MacMillan, all return to Virginia’s lineup as well.

This ranking becomes the second national cross country recruiting honor for head coach Jason Vigilante. In last year’s rankings, Vigilante’s inaugural men’s class was tabbed No. 1 in the nation.

The Cavaliers open their schedule on Friday, Sept. 10 hosting the Lou Onesty Alumni Invitational at Panorama Farms. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
