CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team opens the 2010 season Friday night when it hosts Liberty. Game time at Klöckner Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

The Cavaliers were undefeated in two preseason exhibition games last week. Virginia topped No. 4 Notre Dame 4-1 on Friday in Maple City, Mich., before returning home and playing to a 1-1 tie with James Madison on Sunday at Klöckner Stadium. The Flames, the preseason favorite in the Big South, won 3-0 at Davidson in an exhibition on Monday.

The Cavaliers lead the all-time series between the schools 9-0-0, outscoring the Flames 41-0 in those games. The teams are meeting for the eighth consecutive season. In each of the past three seasons, Virginia has defeated Liberty by a 5-0 score.

Virginia returns 18 letterwinners, including 10 starters, from last year’s squad that went 10-6-6 and reached the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

The Cavaliers close out their season-opening homestand on Sunday when they host Colgate at 2 p.m.
