CHARLOTTESVILLE – The No. 7 Virginia women’s soccer team makes its first road trip of the season this weekend as it competes in the Penn State Invitational. The Cavaliers will play No. 11 Penn State on Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Connecticut on Sunday at noon.

Friday’s game between the Cavaliers and Nittany Lions will be the third meeting between the teams at Jeffrey Field in the past 13 months. Last season, the teams met twice, each winning once. In a second round NCAA Tournament match three months later, Virginia overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to score six goals in a 20-minute span of the second half to win 6-2.

Sunday’s game between Virginia and Connecticut will be the first regular season meeting between the teams since 1993.

The Cavaliers (2-0) opened the season last weekend with a pair of shutout victories at Klöckner Stadium. Virginia topped preseason Big South favorite Liberty 4-0 on Friday and preseason Patriot League favorite Colgate 6-0 on Sunday.

Penn State (1-0) opened its season last weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory at West Virginia. Connecticut (0-1) lost its season-opener to Siena, 3-2, in overtime.
